Hi,

I know that countless people are having this problem and I'm one of them.

I upgraded to XP and have a SCSI Yamaha CD Writer 2100S. At the moment it may as well not be installed as it can't write anything!

I have tried to get help from Roxio, nothing, I sent a number of e-mails to Nero stating everything and asking if their software runs under XP, they said yes, I then asked if, when burning audio CD's, I can name the individual songs as well as name the CD Title and Artist. The answer was a little hazy but given this is mainly what I burn it's a feature I need.

Can anyone tell me if Nero has this feature, i've given up with Roxio and want alternative software.

I have the latest drivers for the drive, ECDC 5 Basic and the XP update from Roxio.com and all that did was make XP think I didn't have any CD drives at all!!

THANKS ROXIO! PISS UP AND BREWERY SPRING TO MIND!

If XP thinks you don't have a CD Writer this might help.

A usenet posting noted the following:

"Thanks for contacting Microsoft Windows Online Support Team.

- In the case log, you said that Windows XP recognizes the CD-RW, as a CD-ROM.

- The behavior may be that Windows XP could not recognize the CD-RW drive automatically. Let’s perform the following steps to modify the registry to let Windows XP treats the device as the CD-RW.

1. Run Regedit to open the Registry Editor
2. Switch to the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives

– All CD drives show up in same key

– “Drive Type” value determines whether drive is capable of writing and rewriting

01=CD-R Drive

02=CD-RW Drive

03=Write Disabled

3. Note: if you have more than 1 CD-ROM / CD-RW devices installed, you will see the related items under the Drivers. Please change the keys one by one, so you can find the correct key.

After doing the above steps, try to burn the CDs

Wich version of Roxio do you have? I am running CD Creater 5 Platinum. When installing it will tell you that no supported drives are detected, do yo want to continue? Known issue. It't posted on the Roxio sight.
After applying the xp compatibility patch and updating to version .2d I have had no problems with the software. There is one feature that is now unavailable, cd to cd burning, but thats no big deal. Just treat the other cd as a hdd directory. [lightsaber]

I'm using Roxio 5.0 Basic with the XP update and everything seems to work fine. CD-to-CD works, 'cause I did it tonight.

I also had the problem of Windows XP not recognizing my CD-R/CD-RW drives. I got this response from Microsoft:

Please try the following steps to fix the issue.

1. Click Start. Click Run. Type regedit and press Enter.

2. Expand the branches in the left panel and locate the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely.

4. Restart the computer.

This worked for me, and now Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum is working. I did not do the XP update from Roxio, and it is still burning fine. When you install Easy CD Creator 5, do not install "Take 2". This program is incompatable with XP.

Hope this helps
