MY CD burner, an MSI 8348 model, 48x16x48x, only seems to work when it wants to. It started out not burning anime, but regular files were ok. After upgrading to Nero 6, some aniime will burn but not others, and some regular files wont burn.
Most of the time the problem crashes Nero, and a minute later, crashes windows.
Sometimes I get the error message "Cant perform fixation".
Does anybody know whats going on?
I am running an AMD athlon xp 2500+ with Win XP Pro and 512 megs DDR.

Anime is the generic term for "Japanese animation". It derives from the french word for "animated".

But do you know why my CD burner wont work?

so.. you are burning a vcd.
Have you tried burning with "finalize disk" .
Or burning with fixation unchecked ,leaving it a multisession disc.

There are update at nero.com dated 1.okt-2003
have yuo installed it .(could be bug in nero with your recorder)

Hiya Soaplover!
No, i am trying to make "data CD", not VCD. I have tried burning both with and with finalize CD.
I have tried burning with multisession and without.
Until this morning it was burning data fine, if sometimes a little slow.
I had even got it to burn some anime, so I thought it was a particular series that was protected somehow.
I have even thought maybe I had some virus that was keeping the burner from working, but the scanner say no.
So what do I do?

advice you to dowload the latest nero updates to begin with
their dated okt.1 2003 .
Havent heard bout virus interfering vith cdburning ,but who knows .
disable automaticly restart in startup and recovery.
Control panel - system - advanced - startup and recovery - settings (remove checkmark for autom. restart)
That gives you a chance to see the blue screen and the stop code .also check eventlog for pointers .

Go with the nero update first if you haven't already installed it.

Went to Nero. Already using latest version(60019.exe). Still having problems. Now burner is having trouble burning data.
I have changed media, to a known good brand which has never caused trouble before; still doesnt work.

Test the burner with PIO 4 mode in bios (force PIO 4)
And change the ide channel from "DMA if availible" to "PIO" .

Then make a new test . CDRW disk i nice to have resolving this kind of problems .

If you have the burner at the same ide bus as HDD ,move the burner to IDE2 bus .(if all data traffic between HDD-CDR is one same ide bus you can get in trouble ).
Basic rule is HDD's on IDE1 , and CDR's at IDE2 .

Hiya Soap,
What is PIO and where do I find it?

The CD burner has always been on IDE 2, set as slave to the stand-alone CD-ROM drive.

Mind you , this has always worked before. Even when copying discs "on-the-fly", or burning the same type of video files that wont work now.
I have even tried a third brand new media, straight from the store--Imation 48x--and of the four disks I tried, 1 worked, 3 didnt.

Also, when burning I notice that the activity light blinks red, instead of green. I have never noticed it doing this before this all started.
