I am about to begin studying for the CCSP PIX exam (642-521). Has anyone out there used the Cisco Press book CCSP Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced Exam Certification Guide. Just curious before I purchased the book.

If anyone out there recommends another study guide please let me know. Thanks.

i am taking that test tomm at 9am, ill let u know how hard it is. I am using the older Cisco Pix Press book because i bought it a while back and didnt see the need for the few chapters that have changed. Do you work with Pix firewalls any?

Good luck on the test. I read the Cisco Press book with the intent of "studying" my highlighted notes afterwards but haven't studied yet.

I am working on replacing an old PIX 520 with a pair on 515E in redundant failover mode. Pretty interesting.

Again good luck, I will appreciate hearing how it went.

I would read the New Exam Cram 2 that just came out over the cisco press. The cisco press neglects on several key topics and is not written for the latest and greatest PIX test. I read it and passed with flying colors.

i passed the test, forgot to post back. I only had one simulation problem, if you work with the pix and go over the encryption part real good you should be fine. Do you know of any good IDS study material? I see that Cisco has changed the test number and there isnt a release date on the new book for that test. I want to get a few days of hands on experience with some Cisco IDS sensors. Good luck on the pix test.

Congrats!!! I've never worked with the Cisco (or really anyother) IDS systems. Good luck.

We just released a new Cisco IDS book from Syngress. It covers everything except the newest IDSM V2 blade (I did cover it lightly) since A: it was not out yet, and B: I could not get a test unit in time. However, there will be an additional chapter posted at Syngress for that book in the coming months once I get it written up that details the ISDM V2 blade. Everything else in the book is current covering version 3.0, 3.1 and 4.
