Hi,

Soon I will go in India (mumbai) for a training purpose, I prepare the CCNA, however I don't know which institution to choose, there are so many some look like professional, if any one of you guys or girls did made the same training please provide me some tips

Cheers

bruxelles,

Go to Cisco and look for a Cisco Systems CCNA Network Academy.

I did a quick search and they have 4 pages of results for Cisco Academies in India

I have taught in a Cisco Network Academy for about 7 years, this is a great course because all the content, labs and exams are from Cisco.

This should be a great place to start - but check out each training center yourself, see who the instructor is, what equipment they have, how many students and of course - how much it costs!!

I hope this helps !!!

From personal experience I would say give Mumbai a definite look. With that in mind then you really only have one training centre to go to in Mumbai and that's Gates Training (
They aren't a Cisco approved house but they do use Cisco Press books to teach from and their CCNP instructor is good (I got to be friends with him whilst doing my MCSE over there). I don't have any experience with their Cisco training as I have postponed that for a while (doing my 2003 MCSE took a lot of hard work) but I am going back to them to complete my Cisco training.

As a side note, I was going to go with Koenig Solutions for my training but unfortunately I read some bad reviews of them and had spoken to a couple of people who had trained with them recently and I decided to look around elsewhere, it was very late into the game when I found Gates (I believe it was 2 weeks before I was due to fly out to India when I decided to go with Gates).

Be warned tho, the weather in India is hot, I left a week ago and it was already touching 40c, luckily I spent most of my time in the classroom or hotel room which were both ac'd to the hilt.
Go over to India with no high expectations and you will be ok, go over expecting the same as europe or the US or Aus and you will be disappointed, there is a lot of poverty and the one thing that really got to me was the overuse of the horn (car, van or bike you name it, they used the horn), there was no real pattern to why they used it, they just did :(

Simon, Sad to hear about the bad news regarding Koenig, I was considering doing my MCSE:2003 Security with them, but just opt for the training as I have a relative who has a holiday home 8 miles away. They are an official certified gold partner, and they are approved for me to use my enchanced learning credits (£2000 payed for by government) do you have any links where people have said it was poor training etc? I was close to parting with works cash, but I might need to look elsewhere now.

Visit for free Cisco rack access.

Gwildfire, have a look in the Microsoft certification and testing Forum, in there you should find the MCSE India thread, have a read of that and as long as it's not been removed (some threads had been due to a corruption I believe) then you should get the idea. If not let me know and I will see if I can get the person concerned to forward on his comments.

The other thing I will say is that when I got the quote from both of them Koenig was £3000 more expensive, now this was for MCSE2003 with both specialisations as well as the CCNA and CCNP and the Sec+, this was also for training based in Goa although I did get quotes for Shimla as well (I really didn't want to go to Delhi).

I should add that as far as I know Koenig don't offer training in Mumbai, unless that's changed in the last 3 months that is.

Hi guys,

first of all, I would like to thank for your answers, so it still difficult to decide my self....In any case now I will go in Mumbai for a week take a courses in compufield
for 175 € and then I will fly to goa for another courses in Koening for another week.
2 weeks for the CCNA will be not too much. I guess or?

I hope then I making the right decision... this is the best things and I already did spend too much time to decide myself due to the `1000´ of offers who have been provided to me by others education centre.

If the koening institution are not good so I will not return there for the CCNP.

Totally it will cost me 2000€
(courses in the both institutions + flight + accommodation + food)

What do you thing ?

Cheers

I had a colleague use Compufield whilst we were in Mumbai, infact he tried 6 or 7 training institutes whilst over there including Gates. He left Gates after 2 or 3 weeks to try studying on his own, the last I heard was that he was going back to Gates but I am not too sure if he did or not.

Either way, good luck with your studies.

Interesting thread, checked out some of the website and the prices are seriously cheap wow. I am currently doing CCNA by self study and did enquire about tutor lead courses and they were going to work out at £2500 plus accomadations thats over $4300. Has anyone been on Cisco training courses in India? Did they go on to pass the certs ?Am tempted to go, but would like to find out from people who have actually been.

Am more interested in CCNP, currently looking at either Gates or Koening. Just that Gates i 11 days and Koening can go for 31 days. But I want something in between the two. Let me know your experiences.

Hi matte,

Well I will do both CCNA from the 25-07 till the 29-07 (5 days) and from the 01-08 I will do the CCNP (15 working days)
Gates it's an official Testing centre, that means you can pass the CCNP exam on this training centre.
So if you want to come for the CCNP next batch schedule for the 01-08 let me know and I will give you the contact of the responsible, I have told there are OK so let's try...Otherwise you can take koenig but they look like to commercial... I ask them to give me some discount if I don't take some balance days etc...But they refuse..So I don't want to stay in GOA for 9 days without doing anything...and especially during the "mousson"
The Fee for the CCNP is 400 £ (with Gates) without any food and accommodation but if you ask they can arrange everything for you

Let me know if you need more information

Cheers

Can someone from the UK explain about enhanced learning credits

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

When you say 15 days does that include weekends? Or is it Monday to Friday?

Can you send me a link for your 15 day CCNP course. I went on Gates website and could only find a 10 day course. Which in my opinion isn't longer enough to cover everything.

Yes but Gates offers 2 kinds of training.
There is one called the CCNP bootcamp or you can take the basic courses look at schedule
From the 01-08 till the 19-08.
So this is the reason why I did not take the bootcamp 10 days are not enough to cover all the CCNP details.

I did decide to take the basic course with Gates, 1st of all Gates they did answer to all my question, they look like more serious..so they will win a new student and I hope others will join us..

So come to join us..3 weeks in Mumbai..
As I said contact them, they will assist you for all your request accommodation etc...

Am planning this for next year, but am still unsure which one to go for, Koening do a 15 day 1 to 1 instruction for CCNP.

Gates training and Gates Bootcamp are the same company but different training approaches, Gates training is Monday - Friday (occasionally Saturdays as well), normally the training is from 10-6 but that can vary. The bootcamp is different, that's 7 days a week, earlier starts and later finishes.

I would be honest and say that going down the training route rather than the bootcamp would be a better solution.

Hi

I am plannig to go for the CCNA and WLANFE at Gates from the 29th August with the 5 days training + exam, my only concerning at the moment is the bad news coming from there... monsoon is doing an extremely bad situation on all Mumbai area.
If anyone that is there can give me some info of what is going on it will be great..
And as well if you have some suggestion about accomodation it will be very helpfull.

thanks

I have work colleagues there at the moment.

Last week they were stuck in their office for 36hours and then managed to get back to their hotel to find there was no electricity for another 2 days. The rains have started again this weekend and they are starting to worry not just about the rain but also disease.

I would have a chat with Varsha to find out what's happening at the moment, obviously if this is something that continues for another couple of weeks I would guess that they may well have to postpone the courses.

As for somewhere to stay.. as you will be doing the training at one of their two locations both based in Dadar East I would suggest you have a look at the Pritam hotel. I stayed in the Ramee Guestline hotel and to be honest I left early partly due to that hotel. I would never go back to stay there even if the accommodation was free.
As for food, the restaruant at the Pritam is excellent (Chinese food mostly) and would recommend that a lot.

Get to have a look around some of Mumbai a little, go to Haji Alley to do some shopping as they have a large electronics grey import market there as well as a Mcdonalds (let me tell you.. after 5 weeks there I loved finding the Mcdonalds :D).

If you have any more questions let me know... I can tell you that I have colleagues going over there at the same time as you and they are still going.

Hi Simon, first of all many thanks for you answer at the end I contacted Varsha and looks like they are not been damage by the rain and there are no delays on the training schedule.

As a wrote before at the end I am going for CCNA and WLANFE, and most probably both for 1to1 course.
Got more question for you..
I undestood there will be no problem to use equipment and labs in there, but do you reckon is better to bring with me my laptop? there are safety deposit boxes in the hotel, at least the one you suggest me?
my idea is to travel a bit after the training and it will be a pain to take everything with me.. especially the laptop..

I ll be in Mumbai this weekend and if have confirmation from Varsha, today is Independence Day in India, on the 22nd I gonna start the CCNA.

Checking out now about hotels, do you remember Pritman Hotel rate?

Cheers!
