Greetings all…

Issue: I am able to ping but unable to use internet base applications for both desktop and laptop.

I am studying for my CCNA and finally got around to setting up a home lab (router on a stick topology) as follows:

DESKTOP & LAPTOP connected to 1 of 2 Cisco 2950 access SW which are connected to a Cisco 2950 distro SW which is connected to a Cisco 2621 core router which is connected to ISP MDM.

Ethernet LAN – all Cat5e cables are tested and are no more then a few feet in length. Devices are using the correct cables (straight through vs crossover). Speed & duplex are hard coded on all devices including PCs.

• From my desktop & laptop I am able to ping & tracert to google.com.
• 2621 RTR is up/up, passing bidirectional traffic with no errors. Learning MAC’s. NAT is translating.
• From 2621 RTR, I am able to ping google sourcing gateway.
• From 2621 RTR, I am able to ping both hosts (desktop/laptop) sourcing gateway.
• 2950 Access SW is up/up, passing bidirectional traffic with no errors. Learning MAC’s.
• From Desktop using Firefox & IE, unable to access google/yahoo via domain name but able to reach them via IP.

I believe to have a DNS issue per my trouble shooting research provided. However I am unable to resolve this issue due to lack of experience. Could someone be so kind as to help me resolve.

OK - try setting your DNS on your PC NIC to 8.8.8.8 but before that, what happens when you try nslookup?

The issue is not with PC as both desktop and laptop are having the same issue whereas they are not when i connect to my alternate regular mdm to linksys to pc's network.

But pc's are set to auto as they should be pulling from router config and then DING DING DING DING. I forgot to add: dns-server 65.32.5.111 65.32.5.112 to the DHCP pool. Now all is fix.

Thx for throwing me back on the right track. :)
