hi techis,

guess what ive got my CCNA exam tommorow :-/ .. just need some last minute advice.. i ve done the ccna course on a 1 week instructor -led training thing and had 2 weeks of home study and finaly writing the exam tommorow.. ive used transender , test king upto v75 and the manual i was given at training to prepare.
ive still got a few concerns .. i read somewhere that the new ccna focusses quite a bit on NAT ( even in the simulations) and ipx and netware. but i wasnt told this while i was training :-( so is it true?( if yes then im sooo dead tommorow!)
also i cannot get hold of any GOOD simulation questions.. i have done few in testking v75 and some from semsim but they seem too easy ( they involve conf rip , ospf, acl's). also found just one simulation question on NAT ... any ideas where i can get few last minute?..

thanks in advance,
dee84

the only advise i can give you is to read the questions very good. When you get simulations, which you will, before starting to configure etc, test the connectivity. Check what you can and cannot ping. Know what you need to achieve before you start configuring.
you don't mention anything about subnetting, but i hope you fully understand that, as you'll be dead if you don't ;)
good luck..let us know how it went.

CCNA, CCNP..partly ;)

thanks a lot MITandSav :)... yes i can subnett in my sleep! not worried about that..its just that im known to make the silliest of mistakes.. and as in ccna u dont get another chance to review your questions, im just a bit worried about the simulations :-/
either way cnt turn back now :-/

thanks again..

If you read the various forums alot of people say that there sims are rip, ospf and acl's but other people have had nat and vlans.

dee84,

If you know your stuff and it sounds like you do - the sims can be that easy!

With 55 questions on the exam they can not expect you tp spend more then 5-6 min on the 1-2 sims you will see.

Last few people I have talked to who took the exam over the past 4 weeks said they had ACL and OSPF sims and very simple trouble-shooting.

Sould be no IPX or Novell on the CCNA exam.

Here is what Cisco says is on the CCNA exam -

Exam Description

The CCNA exam is the qualifying exam available to candidates pursuing a single-exam option for the Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA certification. The CCNA (640-801) exam will test materials from the new Interconnection Cisco Network Devices (ICND) course as well as the new Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO) course. The exam will certify that the successful candidate has important knowledge and skills necessary to select, connect, configure, and troubleshoot the various Cisco networking devices. The exam covers topics on Extending Switched Networks with VLANS, Determining IP Routes, Managing IP traffic with Access Lists, Establishing Point-to-Point connections, and Establishing Frame Relay Connections.

Exam Topics

The following information provides general guidelines for the content likely to be included on the Introducing Cisco Network Design Exam. However, other related topics may also appear on any specific delivery of the exam.

Planning & Designing
• Design a simple LAN using Cisco Technology
• Design an IP addressing scheme to meet design requirements
• Select an appropriate routing protocol based on user requirements
• Design a simple internetwork using Cisco technology
• Develop an access list to meet user specifications
• Choose WAN services to meet customer requirements

Implementation & Operation
• Configure routing protocols given user requirements
• Configure IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateway addresses on routers and hosts
• Configure a router for additional administrative functionality
• Configure a switch with VLANS and inter-switch communication
• Implement a LAN
• Customize a switch configuration to meet specified network requirements
• Manage system image and device configuration files
• Perform an initial configuration on a router
• Perform an initial configuration on a switch
• Implement access lists
• Implement simple WAN protocols

Troubleshooting
• Utilize the OSI model as a guide for systematic network troubleshooting
• Perform LAN and VLAN troubleshooting
• Troubleshoot routing protocols
• Troubleshoot IP addressing and host configuration
• Troubleshoot a device as part of a working network
• Troubleshoot an access list
• Perform simple WAN troubleshooting

Technology
• Describe network communications using layered models
• Describe the Spanning Tree process
• Compare and contrast key characteristics of LAN environments
• Evaluate the characteristics of routing protocols
• Evaluate TCP/IP communication process and its associated protocols
• Describe the components of network devices
• Evaluate rules for packet control
• Evaluate key characteristics of WANs

Good luck on your exam and I hope this helps!
