Hi All,

I just finished reading the ICND 1 & 2. It took a while but eventually finished the whole thing. I'd like to what reference you would recommend to familiarize with the type of questions in the exam?

I was thinking of Pass4sure and Testking because this are the only ones i know. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Since Pass4Sure and Testking are both considered just braindumps, no one here is going to recommend them. I've tried other practice test engines, and sadly none even come close to being a good comparison for the exam.

I believe without violating the NDA, you can expect any combination (but not limited to) the following:
Multiple Choice
True/False
Drag and Drop
Simulation
Short Answer
Multiple-Multiple Choice

I'm just a pbx guy, but if you have not practiced hands on (built your own lab from the ground up), and figured out some system that works for you to figure out subnetting etc, well... the brain dumps will only get you so far. Paper certs are a dime a dozen, and most IT manager's will have a field day with you in the interview. I've seen one of my old boss' bring in our current cisco guy, and essentially gave a mini exam for the interview. Needless to say, the first 5 questions weeded out most of the paper cert guys
Boot camps are cool, I went to one, but until I personally build and tear down a lab a few more dozen times, I'm not taking my test. If for anything, I don't want to look like an ass.
Plenty of info regarding lab suggestions and such. Unless you're in a hurry, take your time and do it right, you'll be happy you did. If the rush is for the old resume, until you pass just put on there ccna test pending completion of home lab. That just may impress a boss or two, more so than having doubt whether you have an earned cert or a paper one.

I agree. I would, however, recommend measureup.com as it is a nice review tool although a bit pricey at $109. That said, it is definitely not a brain dump. What I liked was the fact that you have a practice mode that allowed you to choose the number of questions (I would do ten at a time) and select only questions you have not seen yet. The database is pretty deep with questions. In practice mode you could then select to see the explanation whether you got the question right or wrong. That was nice as the explanations were quite in depth.

It forced you to cover the material from the entire curriculum and thus was a great learning aide. Additionally, CISCO has a couple of books.. 31 Days before the CCENT and 31 Days before the CCNA! Both are also good review tools.

Finally, I would highly recommend that you do some hands on! An actual lab would be your best choice but it seems as if you are nearing the end of your CCNA studies so you may opt for the Boson simulator or look into the GNS3 emulator (which is free but more involved). Just search this forum for some good GNS3 info! And start building your lab now for the next certifications! Even the buying (and therefore research) process of the lab building phase is a great learning tool!

Hope this helps!

Yehey,

"I just finished reading the ICND 1 & 2. It took a while but eventually finished the whole thing."

If you have ONLY used one source and you say you "eventually finished the whole thing" as well as you DO NOT discuss ANY hands-on labs, sims, emulators or anything else like that, and you bring up 2 "brain dump" shortcuts, unless you are working in the field for the past 5-6 years you are NOT ready to take the exam.

I would suggest that you pick up a 2nd source such as ther Sybex CCNA Study Guide by Todd Lammel - 6th edition and read it front to back, not something you "eventually" get through, but READ IT AND KNOW IT!!! The book comes with several practice tests so you can take these to get a gauge of where you are at. Don't learn questions - but take the practice test to see if you know the material. If not go back and read it again and work through it in YOUR lab!!!!!

You also should have (as stated above) a lab of routers and switches to work through ALL the different things you see in both books, the Sybex and the one you used. At very least a good sim or one of the emulators would be better then nothing - it is about hands-on practice!!!!!

Getting a "brain dump" will NOT help you, as it has been stated, you will NEVER get past an interview so why bother - DO IT RIGHT!!!!

If you do use Pass4sure and Testking, make sure that on the exam you be sure and tell Cisco that is what you used to prep for the exam. They do ask you what study material you used, so be sure to give them credit :)

Hope this gets you into action so that you don't waste your time or money!!

Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions. I will get a second reading material and practice with some simulators. :)
