Hello everyone,
I have been studying with Wendell Odom's two book set, "CCNA Self-Study CCNA Certification Library", August 2003 edition which I bought in February 2004. The ISBN for the set is 1587200953. I've noted two other different items since this one:
(1) The current ciscopress 2nd edition at and
(2) the copy listed on amazon.ca at , and on amazon.com at Both Amazon sites show a picture which includes a message "Includes 2005 updates!" on the top right corner of the boxed set which is not on the Ciscopress image that is marked Second Edition.
I know I can read what is in the Ciscopress current edition when I go to the ciscopress website, but how can I really find out what has changed on the CCNA 640-801/640-821 and 640-811 exams since the first edition? Would it still be worth it to buy the new edition?
Thanks for any help.

gbl,

Lots has changed - I would say about 25% I took the CCNA 1 test several years ago and recertified on the 640-801 exam last summer.

Since you already have the old Cisco Press book which will cover 75% to 80% of what you will see - get a different publisher such as Sybex CCNA Study Guide 5th Edition by Todd L.

I always felt that Cisco Press was good for much more detail then you will ever need for the CCNA exam and Sybex was always good for exactly what you need to pass the test.

I used both as well as CBT Nuggets!

Just my thoughts!

CiscoGuy,
thanks for the advice - I was reading here that Lammle's book was good - I'm glad it is still considered good now. Just to clarify, the books I have do cover exams 640-801/811/821. Are you saying that the 801/811/821 exams have been changed 25% since 2003-4, or that they have changed 25 percent from 640-607? Thanks again.

gbl,

Sorry - they have changed 25 percent from 640-607!

I would get the Sybex book just to get a different perspective from Cisco Press!

I always use at least 2 different publishers when I study for an exam and like I said above - Sybex tends to get to the point of just what you need for the exam, Ciso Press teaches you ALL the stuff you need to do the job!!

Just my thoughts!
