I have browsed the forums for a while on previous posts on installing CCM on a generic PC. I have CCM3.3(4), Started off with a basic 2000server install with SP4, Ran the OS upgrade CD (2000.2.6) that ran fine. Now when I run the install CD it runs for several mins. Instals SQL with the SP3 then after that is installed and moves on to the next screen, it fails. Saying to consult the error log for details.

Here is a snip of the error

Property(C): AdminPwdValid = True
=== Logging stopped: 1/2/2005 12:07:01 ===
MSI (c) (38:98): Product: Cisco CallManager -- Installation operation failed.

01/02/2005 12:07:07.775 CCMSetup.cpp fnInstallPackage msiexec.exe: Return Code: 1603: Fatal error during installation.
01/02/2005 12:07:09.197 CCMSetup.cpp fnInstallPackage Cisco CallManager Install did not complete successfully. Review the log file for more information.
01/02/2005 12:07:09.197 CCMSetup.cpp fnInstallPackage User responded "OK" to message box.
01/02/2005 12:07:09.197 CCMSetup.cpp fnInstallPackage Function ended
01/02/2005 12:07:09.237 CCMSetup.cpp WinMain Function ended.

Not sure what could be causing it. It has a static IP installed + SNMP servicies. I have tried the install a few times always stoping at the same place. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Did you do the registry hacks for OS and OS service release before you ran the CCM software? That usually needs to be done or that error message will appear (at least, it did for me every time I tried to run CCM w/out the registry hacks). I usually put one in for OS of 2000.2.5 and then one for OS service release 2000.2.5sr2 before running the 2000.2.6 upgrade).

You also might be better off just installing W2K w/SP4, then doing the registry hacks, then installing CCM. That has also worked for me in the past.

The only registry entries I put in are as follows.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cisco Systems\Model]
"Hardware"="MCS7835"
"Memory"="1024"
"Speed"="733"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Spirian\System Info\OS Image]
"Version"="2000.2.4"

After I ran the update it was changed to 2000.2.6

I will try again with a fresh install..

I just checked the compatibility matrix for CCM and OS version...3.3(4) isn't qualified for use with OS 2000.2.4. It is qualified to work with 2000.2.5, but only if service release 2 is installed.

So, you'll need to add the following reg hacks:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cisco Systems\Model]
"Hardware"="MCS7835"
"Memory"="1024"
"Speed"="733"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Spirian\System Info\OS Image]
"Version"="2000.2.5"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Spirian\System Info\OS Service Release]
"Version"="2000.2.5sr2"

And 3.3(4) should install successfully.

Thanks for the information. I will try this tonight and let you know.

But wouldnt it work if 2000.2.6 was installed since its a release past 2.5? Thanks again for all the help

It should work, but I've discovered you never can tell when you're trying to do this on non-standard hardware. I have reformatted my test labs at least 20+ times, and the 2000.2.5 hacks have always worked for me. 2000.2.5sr2 is the base minimum to install 3.3(4).

Also, it's always better to get CCM installed first, then run that 2000.2.6 OS upgrade (that's what I usually do). CCM will install just fine with just the 2000.2.5 hacks (have done it many, many times). If you install OS 2000.2.6 after you've installed CCM, your IP Phone services will still work, also.

Ok I have tried it with the keys your provided and I get the same error at the same install point. Uppon deeper review of the log its trying to write to a registry key and it cant find the specific key. It is durring the Cisco Directory Install. Every reg hack I have seen only hads the keys you have posted. Is there some other one I may have missed?

Did you try it by installing CCM first and then the OS upgrade?...

TMH

Yes, Only thing I did was add the reg keys(you posted) then try to install CCM. All this was done on a fresh install of 2kserver. Then I got the same error durring the Cisco Directory portion of the install(after SQL). It seems like the install starts to work then looks for some other reg key due to the error saying "unable to write to the specified key" or whatever it says. Thanks again for all your help

Are you doing just a base vanilla install of W2K? Not adding any other services/changing security polices or anything?

TMH

Correct, the only thing I added was IIS. I will try again this weekend when I get time.
