Did you pass? I'm getting ready to take it (CCDA)and CCNP routing very soon after. Looking to hear of other peoples experience with either of those tests.
Pillar- case study is very important on the CCDA test. You need to know cisco's idea of best practices as preached in "Top down network design" by Cisco press. Rules of thumb like mixed network max is 200 nodes and so on. I had 4 case studies and I read the casestudy.. took notes of the important items..things like number of nodes needed, subnet info, protocols used/wanted etc. Then read the question and figured out the answer. Writing everything down 1st saves you from having to flip back and forth. KNow the various standards for ethernet, FDDI, Appletalk. I had some questions about appletalk even though I have not actually seen it used in several years.
Dont kid yourself.. it's a tough test only because of the amount of detailed knowledge you need to remember.

yes, I'm more in the implimentation/security/troubleshooting department, but I wouldn't mind doing the CCDA, studying for it has at least taught me some valuable skills on design, customer relations, and methodology. CCNP is more my style, but I want to be well rounded. Thanks for the info.
I have to agree that the CCDA is a very valuable addition to anyone with a CCNA. More people could use the "formal" design theory and methods. Right now I'm working on both the CCNP and CCDP. I will get both before I tackle the CCIE track.

Sounds like an excellent plan. Personally I've been toying with working on the CCNP for about 2 months, it seems like the next logical step, although my long term goal is the CISSP (
