CCC with 2003 sp1

what version of ccc do you have installed? The latest version (5.0.56)is supported on SP2, however, most versions did run on SP2.
If you are installing the Service Pack over CCC you would be best to backup everything, databases included.

But make sure your IPO is 4.1.1201 for 5.0.56 CCC.
