Facts:
WinXP Pro on a Dell notebook
NAVCE 9.0 with current defs
Office 2003 with current updates

Issue is ccapp.exe is using up way too much of the processor. It will run as high as 99%. We can kill it and it seems to be OK. User states that he notices that it seems to start causing problems when he opens Outlook.

I've poked around symentec knowledge base and here, too, but haven't found anything that solves the problem.

Maybe roll back to 8.x?

Do a search on google for "ccapp.exe cpu usage". Seems to be a common problem. Some peeps say its a worm some say a problem with norton. Roll back to 8 if that didnt cause any problems.

Thanks for the tip. Sometimes you just need to ask the question the right way to get the answer.

Looks like he has a trojan. Did an online scan at trendmicro.com and it found 9 instances. Waiting to see if it makes a difference.

Ended up having to go back to 8.

Did an online scan with bitdefender and it found even more stuff(trojan looking).

Looks like I may have this one beat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed NIS a few days ago only to find ccapp.exe was hogging 99% cpu, but not all the time. then i realised it only did it when i sent e-mail so i did the thing it say on their website (turn off outgoing mail scanning) and of course it didn't work so i went into the firewall options->programs and removed Outlook Express form the list. No problems since then.

Let me know if it works for you
