How this is happened with these two?
Why 2 words? Is there story behind it?

Who knows how weve gotten from Ketchup to Kover but I am moving us to Kover thread. It could be a good one...

Both, Ketchup and Kover should go to "Making an Impression".
You can start a new thread there.

Bummer, I just started KOVER.
Are you sure, as we are playing words here after all.'
Let's wait to hear from E2.

Are you sure, as we are playing words here after all.

Are we? We are researching the roots of the words. From ESquared's faq1322-5588 "Wordplay Forum Tips and Guidelines":

Code:
Please note, however, that there is another forum here on tek-tips, Making an Impression, which is geared toward general language discussion.

... we want to be good neighbors and complement that other forum instead of compete with it.

But of course, let's wait to hear from ESquared himself.

Also, if you remeber, in thread1229-982006, after just one mention of moving the thread to the "Wordplay" forum, even though not seriously, CajunCenturion replied immediatly with

Code:
I think it belongs right here.

Wordplay (Forum1322) is for anagrams, puns, spoonerisms, palindromes, jokes, and puzzles.

Making an Impression (Forum1256) is for general language discussions, word usage, history, and etymology.

This is neither a game nor a language study, so it probably is best right here.

After the second post, I decided not to weigh in, because it said "Any other pairs of words people can think of like that?"

It's a gray area, but I would say it's not exactly in the intended spirit of wordplay, especially the new rabbit trails that have developed.

But you can't have everything... sometimes you just have to let things slide.

Since "ketchup"/"catsup" is an English phonetic transliteration of the sounds of a word of southeast Asian origins, it is amazing that that there are not dozens of alternative spellings. The origins of this "All-American" word trace most directly to the Malay word "kechap" which means "fish sauce". As with a large portion of other segments of Malay culture, this Malay word also traces its origins to southern Chinese provinces.
