I'm thinking of buying a ws-x5030 Copper Token Ring module for my Cat5000 in my lab. My question is will I need a router to transfer packets between this module and the other modules on the switch? For example, will I be able to ping between 100baseT ethernet hosts and token ring ethernet hosts? Or do I still need to insert a router in the mix?

thanks,
AR

You'll need a router to pass traffic from one subnet to another.

I understand needing a router to route between subnets. But what if hosts on a 100BaseT module and hosts from a Token Ring module are on the same network. Will they be able to communicate without a router?

thanks,
AR
