Catalyst 4000 family supervisor engines 1

Question,

If I purchase a Catalyst 4003 chassis would that include the 4003 supervisor engine / module ?

I can't really tell from the Cisco documentation.

No. Sup engines are a different line item and part number.

It depends on the part number - you can order just the chassis by itself, but most often, the Cat4k will include 1 or 2 power supplies and the supervisor. Cisco is pricy but not that greedy. BTW - the Cat4k is a great box.

It's a great box but doesnt talk ISL so talking VLANs to any of the older switches ( 1900s) is a lost cause as they only talk ISL. Just keep it in mind if you have to support any legacy equipment
