Hi,
My company just bought 2 used catalyst 3550. My boss told me to configure VLAN ports between two switches and then noticed one switch has OS version 12.1 with rev. 15 and another with version 12.1 with rev. 22. I told him as long as the OS version is higher than .0 is stable enough, but he is still skeptical of its compatibility because they have different rev. number. So I would like to ask the expert's advice here. Is there a potential problem with the current switch's OS version?
Thanks in advance!

There is a software comparison tool on CCO. If you don't have an account, I can look it up for you, but I need more info:
the 3550 model (XL, GXL, 12 port/24 port?)
IOS ver (EMI, LMI, enterprise?)

As long as they are the same IOS version number they should be ok . If it bothers you you can upgrade both to be the same if you have maintenance on these switches .

or just copy the newer ios from the one switch to the other switch

Cisco switches don't require the same version OS to be on each switch... No more 3com days. :)

Thanks to all for replies.

Jsteve:
Both are XL model and 48 port switch.
And about that EMI, LMI and enterprise? how do i figure that out?

You should be able to find a label on the back of the switch w/ the model number on it, and it will also have whether it's EMI, SMI, etc. Example: WS-C3550-24-EMI or WS-C3550-48-SMI and so on.
