I'm new to the 2950 switch, which I got a great deal on and is the reason I bought it. I'm migrating from an unmanaged 3com 24 port. The question that I had is that I set up the switch using the express setup, configured the IP address, hostname, passwords, etc. and I have no connectivity from the other 23 ports. Just the first port which is the default VLAN1. What needs to be done in order to use this just as a switch and no VLANs.

Check to make sure all the ports are on the same vlan and they are not shutdown. Is this a brand new switch or is it used? If new, should be able to just plug and go...if it's used, it might have been pre-configured with different vlans. If you can, post the config.
 
Its a brand new out of box switch. Should I erase the current config then?

I erased the current config by holding down the mode button. Now, I know the default ip address of the switch is 10.0.0.1, does that mean if I make no changes to the switch and just plug and play, my network ip scheme needs to be changed as well? Just curious
 
The ip address for the switch is for management only . As long as all the ports are in the same vlan and your clients are addressed in the same subnet range they should be able to talk to each other , the switch would have to be addressed in the same subnet range in order to telnet to it and manage it , otherwise your only management will bee thru the console port .
 
This is odd. With any other switch that I had used, you just power it up and plug in node ports and done, networked!
The only port lit up is #1, too. If I plug a cable into another port, 2-24, nothing.
What gives?
