I ordered some Cat6 rj45 plugs and I do not quite understand how these work. The plugs come in two pieces, one small piece with staggered holes for the wires, and the plug itself. My question....can someone please give me instructions on how to get the wires in this tiny plastic piece? Then what do I do? Which way does the piece fit in? I have spent a lot of time on this, and normally I could have mad 50 CAT5 cables in that time.

Also, do you have the correct crimping tool for these?

The answer is "42"

Thanks, folks. The link showed me what I needed to do. Just what I figured, but geez, what a pain. Thanks for the tip on checking out a crinping tool as well. I don't do too much wiring, but we are starting a new project that requires additional wiring. Glad I joined the forum!

Isn't the cable shown on that website wired backwards?

In my hemisphere, orange/white goes on the left. ;-)

(The photo looks backwards but the drawing/cross section seems to be done the way I'm used to...)

And does cat6 take a new crimper?

Some plugs need a different crimper die. AMP is slightly different than others.

The answer is "42"

Ooh, that looks pretty decent. I bet it's easier to be able to fix down the wired before they go into the plug, I bet you can maintain the twist a lot better too (perhaps not for a professional installer, but the rest of us). We almost always use factory-made patch cables but every now and then you have to do it yourself.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

You are right, the cable is flipped.

Yes, the cat 6 takes a different die.

SL tool only for SL jacks, not for use with the
110 connect jacks (AMP).

Boy this stuff sure is fun !!
