Have a customer with 6-7 Cat5e cables with RJ45 plugs that wants them terminated on a patch panel. Two of the cables are 5e shielded. Can I terminate UTP on a shielded patch panel?

Thanks
Mansell

Yes, you can terminate UTP on a ScTP panel, not a typical install that I would advocate, but it can be done when needed.
I would not go the other way, if I had a project that required ScTP or STP I would only terminate them on the proper panel.

With that small amount of cables to terminate, get a "blank" panel, that just has cutouts for keystone jacks.

Then terminate each cable on a keystone jack, using shielded jacks for the shielded cables, then pop them into the panel.

I really hate unloaded panels. I've been burned by not having the right manufacturer's jacks for new customers too many times.

In this situation, though, I do like Tommy's suggestion. Either way, though, you'll still have to provide a ground for the shield at one end or the other for the shielded cables.
