Hi all,

I'm looking for info on a cable I saw a while ago that was basically 10 or 20 cat5 8-pair cables all bundled inside an external housing. Can't remember if it was gel-filled or not.

We're wanting to hook a small building to a "main" building and be able to run power over Ethernet for the phones -- that's my main concern in keeping each 8-pair separate, and why fiber isn't an option for us.

I'd appreciate any ideas... thanks!

oops
That should read

I'm going to post for the last time on this thread, because this is beginning to become unreal.

I don't know if you work in the field, or if you design layouts for cabling, or what... I work in the field.

I have worked as an outside plant subcontractor, as a PBX installer... and also for a national fiber backhaul company.

As I've stated more times that I want to count. This is not going to meet code. This is not the best solution. This is not the correct solution. This solution will work. It will be cheap enough to meet requirements. And it's probably going to work for a while.

So... with that said. I'm sure that there are 10000000 ways to do this otherwise, but here's the bottom line:

The guy wants a cheap solution that will work. That's what he's got. So... I don't see any reason to keep fussing about this.

I don't think that anyone can realistically expect to use a twisted pair cable to connect two buildings and have it pass code. But it will work.

Ideas, codes, and the reality.....

Underground runs, maybe even bum some free underground from the telephone company, put on some surge protectors, and get on with life.....

Im a field monkey too, I have to do what I can with what I have.....

Avaya, you sure aren't kidding... and I thought the Programming in Assembler forum was weird. [sleeping2]

Haha... programming! Boy, now that would be an exciting forum :)

Good luck with it bro, let us know how it goes.

I'd sure like to know what the bundled cable is like.
