The guys at ADI sold me some boxes of CAT5 on a roll in a box. What a mess! I will not buy that stuff again. You drag the box when its more than half empty, and when I pull out multiple runs that will all be pulled together then it coils up and tangles. urgh!!
Anyone else feel the same?

Ive used general cable on a roll , in the box off and on for years

works find for me .

I agree the cable on rolls inside the boxes are a real pain, they are heavier and sometimes, doing mulitple runs, you need an extra person just to feed the cable out of the boxes.
Glad to hear someones feels the same as I.

I don't do a lot of cabling but it has happened to me a few times using General Cable. I discovered the problem was due to the way I handle the boxes when transporting them. Try to keep them upstraight as much as possible when carrying them/storing them.

First off buy better cable. You get what you pay for. I use Berk-Tek and it never happens.

Also tried Nordx/CDT, same thing. Like I said, if the box gets "tossed" around a little, the cable gets loose and gets caught up. Once it get's a little loose, as you keep on pulling from the box, it loosen a little more and so on...

It was decent cable. What happens is that if I pull out 4- 100ft lengths from one box, those pulls coil up like a slinky and tangle themselves.
Akwong, the problem is not inside the box and this cable is on a spool, it is not the type that is looped in, which that stuff works fine.

ah ok. I saw some pretty sophisticated gizmos that allow cable to be fed properly from spools/boxes in cabling magazines. Don't know if they really work well, never tried.

I have had that problem from time-to-time with cable from ADI. I would make a complaint about the condition of the product, and next time inspect it before leaving the store. If it broken reject it! The shippers really throw that stuff around sometimes! I had several spools of cross-connect wire I rejected because the spools were broken. I discovered that when I opened the carton. These were from General Cable, but they made good on them.

Hope that helps!

I must agree with the handling of the boxes, thrashing them around does not help to get the "kinkless, coiless, no slack...blah blah....." Still the price is everything, if its on a reel or in the box, cheap cable is just a pain.
