I just ran cat 5e about 200ft and my computer with a 10/100 card works fine but my new Dell with a Gigabit ethernet dosen't fxn properly. I know the computer works well on other LANs. But on this new LAN Windows keeps showing the line disconnected then connected and keeps switching back and forth.

Thanks for any help.

Is 200ft getting close to the limit for Car5 100meg? I think it's 100m or about 300ft but it may warrent a look.
Also you said gigabit dosn't gig need better cable than cat5e (350meg) and if it was run over a lower grade cable that may be the issue.

Standard wiring suggests that you don't lay the cable over power conduit, copper pipe, lighting, or full cases of beer too. -= Beer is food! Is it suppertime? =-
