Hi,
Someone in a previous post

thread328-102153

talked about using Visio to reverse enginer a teradata database.

Teradata has our own Meta data Server which contains all the table and user definitons and is automatically updated everytime a

Create User
Create Database
Create Table
Modify User
Modify Database
Alter Table
Drop User
Drop Database
Drop Table

is executed. It logs information about each field and even logs the user id of the user who made the modification to the catalog.

using this Meta data server it is possible to record information about the data warehouse where the data is coming from and where it is exported to.

it supports the current Metadata Interchange Specification so any tools which know how to interface with this type of data can use this server to obtain the user and table definitions and therefore it relieves some of the traffic against the real server catalog.

go to

and click on the link under Teradata Warehouse Suite in the middle of the page to....

Teradata Meta Data Services

then pick the current documentation for 02.01.00 which is the current release.

Yes Erwin supports Teradata. I am using Erwin 3.5.2 to reverse engineer and model tables in Teradata v2r4.

I beieve the Silverrun range of tools support Teradata, too.
