I have tried several times now to capture video via a firewire connection from my Sony Handycam, without success.

The camera isn't seen in the Device Manager. I am running XP Pro, using Pinnacle Studio 9 for capture with AN8 Ultra Mobo and dual core processor with 2Gb memory.

I'm not sure the camera will be seen in device manager. Can Pinnacle see it when you put it into capture mode? You may have to select the camera as your desired device.

Pinnacle sees it if I use SVideo, but if I try to use firewire it says device not connected. Firewire port is working fine, and its a new cable.

Are you sure pinnacle supports that brand for firewire capture? Its been a couple years since ive been in video editing so things may have changed. Back when I did it only certain brands and models of cameras were supported using firewire. So if this still holds true you might want to check online and see if they support it.
