cant view folder properties

I can't view any of the folder properties. I can view file properties but no folder properties. Can someone help me. i need to determine how to enable web sharing of a folder but cant right click the folder of view properties. Thanks.

Exactly what happens when you right click on the folder? Does the "drop down" open?

The "drop down" does appear and when I click on the properties option nothing happens. this is only a problem with folders. thanks.

If you highlight the folder and then click on the File menu option and then click on Properties what happens?

Use Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, to remove IIs. Then reboot and test.

If it seems okay, re-add IIs.

When I try to remove IIS the wizard just sits ther doing nothing. I can't view pages locally administered using Http. The folder problem al of a sudden was resolved when I atleast attempted to remove IIS. I can't make sense of it. How can I get IIS to work? Thanks.

What does Task Manager say about the status of Add/Remove programs?
Can you close the Task if it is not responding?

Reboot and re-add IIs.

Then reboot again and do a Start, Run, sfc /Scannow

This some times has been caused when ZoneAlarm firewall is run in conjunction with IIS. It has sometimes been fixed by re-installing Client for Microsoft and File and Printer Sharing.

Thanks I think everything is working well now. I was able to uninstall and reinstall IIS and everything seems to be working well. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the report back. This problem re-appears and its source seems to change:

. It used to be that various things would make these registry entries that had to be changed:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoPropertiesMyComputer"=dword:00000001
"NoPropertiesMyDocuments"=dword:00000001

. Then there was a mess with various Antivirus programs

. Then there was a mess with COM object registration

. Then there was a mess with WMI failures

. Currently IIs and Hotfixes seem to be the source. Hence the recommendation above to remove IIs, reboot, and re-install IIs.

It is clearly an issue with COM applications and Windows Instrumentation, but the source of this irregular problem is still unclear to me.

Glad you got the issue sorted. I apologize for having to walk you through from earliest known causes and fixes, to later know causes and fixes. Such, unfortunately, is the nature of this particular problem.
