I set up my ftp server and can log into it using dos shell. I pointed the god damn ftp server to every .tar file or folder containing anything that came out of the exe file from the software upgrade download. I tell the software installer to go and do its work at the ip address of the ftp server and it tells me it cant find the specified file.

what the hell am I doing wrong?

the reason im trying to upgrade is because if you make one or two calls the 3300 decides to reset itself and I dont know how to begin to trouble shoot it.

please help.

I'm betting upgrading the software isn't going to help the main problem.

As far as the software installation, are you using a PC as the FTP server? If so, make sure it has an FTP server package installed. The simplest is MS IIS, which is a Windows component but is normally NOT installed by default. Next, make sure the Mitel software tool installs the files to your FTP server (for IIS, the default is C:/inetpub/ftproot). Next, make sure you don't have a firewall running on the machine that's acting as your FTP server.

For us to be of any help here, we really need some more details on your setup.

thanks for the reply.

I am trying to use the computer as the FTP server. one of my coworkers likes guild FTP so that is the ftp ive been trying to use.

the ftp server package is in administrative tools in the control panel, right? if so you are correct that it isnt installed ill have my it department install it since they have a tight death lock on all the computers.

in the meantime, ill delete and uninstall everything and re-install it and specify the folder my ftp program is using as a root folder.

ill double check the firewall also.

what info do you need about my system. its just a laboratory 3300mx that has been passed around the state of Alaska and finally has come back home to my shop here and its not running so good. ive got like 2 ip phones set up on it and if you call back and forth the 3300 decides to reboot for no reason. it will run stable for a long time as long as you dont use the phones.

I would really like to clean the slate and format the entire box but I have no idea how and this 3300 handbook is cumbersome.

I doesnt sound to me like you are using the software extraction tool to put the files on the FTP server but that you are copying the files manually.

You must run the EXE file found in the software folder on the CD or Download and it will extract the files to the FTP Directory that you designate.

If you do not follow this process, the system will not find the files it is looking for.

I unpackaged everything into the root directory and it still couldnt find what it was looking for when I ran the exe file, so I did a reboot from vxworks. I changed all the entries to mosfcc, etc; gave the ip address of my ftp server and the ip address of the 3300, restarted it and now I have a blank slate 3300 with the latest software version.

but I didnt write down my license codes so now I need to figure out if someone had written them down before or if I will have to call mitel.

Do you have your applications record? If so you can sync the system with the Mitel AMC.

no. I now remember from the class I took a year ago that you should write down that ARID if you need to start over from scratch. the company pbx engineer should have all those written down somewhere. He is off until tomorrow though. Does the mitel store it anywhere in some super secret file?

If you have an AMC account, you can look it up by the SysID, which you can find in the License and Options Selection form.
