Has anybody ever had a problem with XP and manager where as you can pull configs and edit them with no problems but cannot perform any upgrades it just fails straight away?

I have tried comparing the laptop to another one that works and apart from the make (HP) I can't see any differences.

check if the MAC id is in the BootP of the Manager, also point the tftp IP address to your manager PC

If you have not rebooted since upgrading Manager that can cause it to fail, that and entering the wrong password of course "password" by default. :)

If the system password was changed from its default "password" you'll need to know what that is. This tends to happen on a lot of pre-3.2 systems for me where we change the system password, but when upgraded to 3.2 or higher you get used to just "Administrator/Administrator."

Head into the security settings and try resetting the system password?

I meant to reboot the PC by the way not the system :)

Check your working directory directories are set to the right paths.

Hi all,

It's nothing to do with the password. As I previousley mentioned I have compared all the settings to a laptop thats working perfectly and they are all the same.

I have even tried disabling services that are not running on the PC that I have compared it to and it still doesnt work.

It must be to do with TFTP on the laptop but I can't find whats stopping it. It will Pull configs, write to configs, reboot the system through advanced but when you try to upgrade it fails at the first step, it doesn't even attempt to transfer the files.

PC has been rebooted numerous times and all working directories are correct :)

You could do it with DTE

Login with at
Then at-debug

Then upgrade

This will perform an offline upgrade so you must have a bootp entry etc etc etc
This is just like an empty box :)

I have had it on XP had to use a different PC.
Didn’t have time to work out why.
I know this doesn’t help your situation just wanted to let you know know you are not going mad.

when it fails at the first step what does it say?

sounds like a password error. i know you say you have checked that. but thats what happens when the pword is wrong

This happened numerous times until I discovered the pesky lil built-in Windows XP firewall. I could do all the things you listed, but never upgrade. I'm sure you already checked that, though. Sometimes, turning it on then turning it off and rebooting makes it "stick".

or disable the firewall services or run the batch file

Hi Tom,

its definately not password related as another laptop on the same system works fine, its not a firewall or antivirus either as the resective services are disabled.

I'll just have to get the Laptop user to rebuild windows.

looking at the docs the upgradewiz uses port 50798

would be a pain to have to rebuild windows.

are you plugged straight into the ipo?

Tried it straight on the IPO and through a switch. Currently trying it on a test bed so no firewalls or network rules stopping anything.

The user is Going to remove all software thats not to do with avaya and reinstall the network drivers and see what happens.
