We're running Complete Accounting 2007 SR3 on a MS network. When closing the program on the workstations the SR5 update tries to install but can't, we get a message that SR5 has to be applied on the server first. We think we have successfully applied it to the server but get this message on the server, "Product does not need to be applied". In checking regedit, all keys point to SR5. Is there a way to trouble shooot this?

Thanks

Michael

This message occurs after you have had a partial or failed install of the Service Release. When attempting to reinstall the Service Release a second time, you will receive the error that “the product update does not need to be applied.” This is caused by certain registry keys being partially updated. In order to apply the updates, you will need to reset the registry back to its status prior to attempting installation of the Service Release.

Note: This article contains information about how to modify the registry. It is strongly recommend that you backup the registry before you modify it. You should perform these steps only if you are familiar with editing the Windows Registry. Please contact your local IT Administrator or Computer Consultant for assistance if needed.

Close Peachtree.

Press the Windows logo and R keys on your keyboard to open the Run window, or you may click on the Start menu, and select Run.

Type regedit in the Open box and click OK.

In the registry editor, browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Peachtree\Applications\(Short Name + Version Number)

Peachtree Release Short Name
Peachtree Quantum - Accountants Edition PTXA+ Version Number
Peachtree Quantum PTX+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium Accounting - Accountant's Edition PPAA+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium Accounting - Construction PPAC+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium Accounting - Nonprofits PPAN+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium - Manufacturing PPAM+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium - Distribution PPAD+ Version Number
Peachtree Premium Accounting PPA+ Version Number
Peachtree Complete Accounting PCW+ Version Number
Peachtree Pro Accounting PAW+ Version Number
Peachtree First Accounting PFA+ Version Number
Peachtree Release Version Number
2008 15
2007 14

On the right pane of the window, right-click on the Version string and select Modify.

In the Value Data field, change the last digit in the value to 0. Press OK.

Select File, Exit to close the Registry Editor window.

Install the latest Peachtree Service Release. (You can download the latest Service Release by going to Choose Products, Product Updates and select the product to be updated.)

Once the update is completed, open Peachtree.

Thanks for your detailed response. I followed your instructions, changing the last digit of the version number to zero in all keys where the version number was 14.0.05. I applied SR5 and it was a clean install. However, I get the same message when upgrading on the workstation. The firewall is disabled on the workstation. What's next? Thanks for your continued support. Michael

The same procedure above applies to the workstations, too.

Thanks for your continued help. I made the same changes on the workstations and made a little progress but the installation still failed. During the install, 2 new screens appeared, the first was the large green, "Peachtree Accounting Update" screen, and the 2nd a warning pop-up to deactivate any firewall or anti-virus software that is running. After pressing OK to the pop-up, I then got the same message that the update has to be installed on the server first. Am I missing something in the registry? I double checked to make sure I changed the last digit of the version number to "0" in all keys.

Please don't give up on me. Thanks

I wish I could help you more. My recommendation would be to call Sage for support at this point. I'm sure they can help you, but there is a fee involved.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay their fee.

Found it! In checking the ini files on the server, there was one file, verinfo.ini, that showed the version to be 14.0.03 rather than 14.0.05. Changing it to .05 allowed the workstations to upgrade without an issue. I would have gone ballistic if I paid Peachtree Support $300 for this simple fix.

Hi
I finally installed PCW2007SR5 on server but I still can't in clients. When I try to install this file in clients I still see the window saying that: 1) I have antivirus and I have to disable it and 2)that the version of Peachtree I am using is in several computers so I have to install first this update (PCW2007SR5) on server, what I did. Yesterday I couldn't in server, but yesterday I did something which worked: I right clicked it the file PCW2007SR5 and choose extract toPCW2007SR5/ (using winRar) and it created a folder with same name (regular folder), so from of it, I installed successfully, finally in server.

But I still can't install in clients. I use Peachtree Complete Accounting 2007 and I use XP in clients and Windows 2003 on server.
Also, I installed the Peachtree program in a external hard drive of the server, and it has worked fine from 2008 until I realized that the 941 form were expired and since then I also found out that the reason was that server components were not updated (we have the tax update services with Peachtree).

At the beginning We had the Peachtree folder in a partition (D) in the server (the component part program) until last year when we decided to put Peachtree program it in a external hard drive thinking that at sometime we would need to change server.

What I notice yesterday is that when I install this PCW2007SR5 in server it installed that update in D:(the partition where originally was Peachtree) and it created a folder named "Programs~1". Is it all right? because the folder in external drive where contains the Peachtree program folder is named "program payroll". Anyway, so, just in case I copied the complete folder of Peachtree from external drive (I) to D (the partition) to see what would happen, and also I copied the folder "programs~1" to the Peachtree folder in external drive I. But again I can't install in clients that update.

A don't know what to do. I also disabled the End Point protection, (the antivirus what we use) in the clients (even though in the server I disable the antivirus also, when installed that update I received that message that I have to disable the antivirus, anyway, the update PCW2007SR5 got be installed in server.

But what about the clients? Any help is welcome.

Eric

My only experience with this type of issue is investing the registry as described above and also searching all peachtree .ini files to make sure the version number is correct. Hope this helps.
