Cant undo Highlighter function in word.

Is there a setting that locks in highligted areas based on the user who used the tool?
I recived a document from a user that used the highlighter to mark certain parts of the document. When I set my highlighter tool to "none" and then try to select the areas to remove the highlighter it does not work.
I can use and remove my own highlighter, but not the stuff the other user marked.

It might not be highlighter. It might be a comment.

Hrm.. i have never used the comment feature before. Do comments look like highlighted text? There did not seem to be anything different about it at all...

Prior to Word 2002 comments looked exactly like highlighted text. However if you hover your mouse over them you should see the comment pop-up in a bubble.

This is word 2002 (office xp) that I am using. And nothing came up when I hovered...

I've come across this problem before. Check to see if it's the Shading option.

Highlight the text then go to Format > Borders & Shading > Shading tab. Then select No Fill here.
