I thought I was at 8.1.7 on this server (my PC), but I looked again in the init.ora file and it is at 8.1.0. Yes, this is running on windows XP and no, I don't have access to metalink. This is a real sore spot for me, because I am suppose to be supporting about 15 oracle databases, yet I don't have a metalink account. These databases are all from various vendors and the vendors hold the metalink account, yet I am suppose to support these databases because my company did not purchase the DBA support from the vendors.
Thanks, I'll try upgrading.
init.ora file contains compatibility information, not software version. There's no such product as 8.1.0. Besides there's no 8i version certified on XP, thus I'm a bit surprised how your vendor could suggest a non-certified combination for production system.
