Hi,

I want to share files among my two computers at home. Computer 1 is a Win2k Pro with the ip of 192.168.1.101.
Computer 2 is a WinXP Pro with the ip of 192.168.1.100.
Both are connected with a router sharing dsl connection.
Both belong to a WORKGROUP called Mshome.
Both have a folder set on its hard drive to share with the other.

My problem is that Win2k can't 'see' WinXP.

I ran the network setup wizard at WinXP. WinXP can see and access files on the shared folder on Win2k.

But yet if I tried the following on the Win2k, all I got is 'network path not found'

- from the RUN prompt, type '\\192.168.1.100'
- map network drive '\\192.168.1.100\sharedname'
- go to Network Neighborhood -> Entire Network -> MS Network -> and click Mshome -> 'Mshome isn't accessible'

Both computers have an administrator account with the same user name and password. Also, I am logged into this administrator while doing this file sharing setup.

What am I missing here?

Thanks.

. Same identical Workgroup Name, unique Computer Names
. All users of Computer 1 are made users in Computer 2, and vice-versa
. Under TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, WINS tab, "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP" both computers

Step-by-step Guide, Simple File Sharing Enabled

Step-by-step Guide, Simple File Sharing Enabled

Remember with Simple File Sharing disabled you need to grant permissions to the Sharename, and in NTFS.

The second link is Simple File Sharing Disabled

You might want to make sure that you don't have the XP Pro firewall enabled or that you have the firewall permissions set to allow the 2K computer.
