MY
I am currently using Imail 6.04 on windows 2000 server. The problem is that I can't send e-mails to external e-mail addresses (e.g yahoo, msn) but I'm able to send within my domain on the imail server. Could it be a DNS problem?

Sending how? Using what email client? You probably have SMTP AUTH turned on and need to set it in the client. If SMTP AUTH is on you will get an ERROR 550 (not a gateway) at the client when trying to send mail.

When I restart the imail server I can send mails out. why is this happening?

THAT behavior I havent seen. Wat error does it give you when it stops allowing email to outside addresses?

When it does stop sending outside, if it's generating error 550 (not a gateway) try setting up a cleint to use SMTP AUTH and see if that client can send mail out.

Quick instructions for Outlook Express

Open OE
Click TOOLS
Click ACCOUNTS
Click the MAIL tab
Highlight the mail account you want to use as a test
Click PROPERTIES
Click the SERVERS tab
Put a checkmark in the VERY BOTTOM box that says "MY SERVER REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION"

You MAY need to click the SETTINGS button and set it to "Log on Using" and play with the username. Some systems will require "username@domain.tld" -- others will require only "username". Depends on your virtual host setup.
