Hello all,

I was finally able to restore a server. I have Exchange5.5 on a windows 2000 server machine. I did a offline backup(copying dir.edb,priv.edb etc..) transferred to new server. I also had to do Isinteg -patch because exchange wouldnt start at first. After i did that everything was up and running.

I tried sending an email local to local and get an error of
"550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for xxxx@domain.com"

I tried sending an email from my gmail account to an account hosted on my email server and i get a bounce back with the same error.

I made sure in IMS under routing that i have my routing restrictions with my internal IP. Reroute incoming SMTP mail is selected also. Under routing i have my domain name under Send To: and under Route to: i have <inbound>
All these configs are the same on the old server.

If i unplug the new server and plug the old machine back onto the network i can send/receive emails fine. Once i unplug the old one and put the new one back on the network nothing works. I've done reboots, unjoin / join the domain again.

Anyone know what can be causing this? 3

Thanks
Laura

Your domain MX records need to deliever to the new server, not the old one.

My MX records point to the same IP. The new machine has the same IP configuration as the old server. Thats why i cant have it on the network at the sametime.

when i telnet into my email server using its DNS name i get a response from the server.
i get :
Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Thu, 30 Nov 2006 16:31:40 -0500

So it seems like MX records are fine.

Thanks
Laura

Did you stop and restart the IMS service on the new server after making the config changes?

Yea, i restarted and even rebooted the system.
I still get the no relay message. =(

Thanks
L

And the IMS Routing section on the new server is identical to the old server?

Yea the IMS routing is exactly samething. Under the Queues tab on the new server its greyed out though, would that cause any problems? I can't select the Queue Names. The rest of the tabs and the configuration in them are identical.

Thanks
L

Remove and reinstall the IMS on the new server - the queues shouldn't be greyed out.

Thank you!!!, that worked. I guess it was a corrupted IMS after it was restored.
