Hello all. I have attached a StorageTek SL500 tape unit to a solaris 10 server(M4000).
I've tried the usual "reboot -- -r" and devfsadm etc commands however I still cant see the (LTO3) tape drives from the server. The /dev/rmt directory is empty as well.
What do I need to do to see the tape drives?
Thanks.

Me again. I should have added that the library is attached via fibre rather than scsi...

What kind of fibre channel cards are installed on your system?
What is the output of "cfgadm -al"?

Hi thanks for the response.

I can't see that the tapes are configured correctly - otherwise they should show up as type "tape".
Have you tried "cfgadm -c configure c[24]"?

mrjazz - thanks. I may be completely stupid but do the tape drives have a fibre connection of their own ?(I have only one coming from the changer...)
Otherwise I have done the cfgadm bit though I see there are 2 on c2 and c4 unconfigured.

Hi,
with cfgadm you will have to see the changer AND the drives.
A few more things to check:
What does "sgscan" look like?
Do you have device files for your drives under /devices?
Do you have entries in your /etc/path_to_inst for your drives?
How do /kernel/drv/sgen.conf, /kernel/drv/st.conf look like?
mrjazz

Hi,
did you solve your problem? Did not get any updates from you for my last posting.
mrjazz

Sorry for not responding mrjazz, after further investigation I am now waiting for a scsi hba card for the server so that I can hook up the drives. I had thought that all (drives and changer) would be seen through the fibre changer card. Clueless I know.
Thanks for your help.

mrjazz - help. Have now connected up the tape drives but still cant see them. If i do a probe-scsi-all I dont see them and so I cant see any sign of them in the OS. It seems to see the PCIexpress card but not the drives. I have tried to a cfgadm -c configure c10 and c11 to no avail. See below.
