I have allocated more disk space on my FastT to an exsisting vol group. What I think I need to do is:
take down oracle db's
varyoffvg pdb01vg
varyonvg pdb01vg
chvg -?
extendfs ?

I am a little cloudy on the these steps. I know varyoff/on will wake up the system to know that there is more space available but what next?

Sorry for the rookie question
John

Actually, your steps are kinda wrong. Not trying to hate, just letting you know. I assume you are presenting more disks to your system from the FastT. What you want to do is run a cfgmgr to see the new disks. Then you will need to add the new disks to your pdb01vg so they can be used.

No I actually added more space to the existing logical volume. From 32 Gig to 110 Gig.

There is a file system on it....oracle databases

If you only grew the size of the LV you will not see any increase in the size of the FS. You must now grow the size of the FS to fill up your larger LV. This can be done on the fly.

You were right on. I am just learning lvm on Aix and don't know how some of this stuff works.

Thanks
John

you can also just grow the FS and the LV with grow automatically

As per plamb: You can just grow the FS (smitty chjfs) but it will only grow it to a certain point as governed by the setup of the logical volume. The maximum number of Logical partitions is 512 by default. When you Change a Logical Volume - changing the maximum number of logical partitions allows you to extend the file system up to that number(Max Logical Partitions X physical partition size). I don't believe a check of any kind is made on the maximum number of Logical partitions for a particular logical volume. Frequently, when just extending the jfs - you will get a message that you cannot extend the file system and that is the reason.
