We are running an environment with:
Windows NT 4 (DHCP Server) running IP
Novell 4.11 running IP and IPX
NEW Novell 5 server running IP

I can ping to and from the Novell 5 server, but cannot log onto it.

I did assign and IP address and network subnet mask to the Novell 5 Server.

Can anyone offer any input?
Have you configured SLP (SYS:ETC\SLP.CFG) and loaded SCMD?
If not, see Novell TIDs 2951564 and 2949348. NetWare/IP on 4.11 does not give you connectivity to IP on NetWare 5 by itself. Be sure you understand SLP and SCMD. I have had a lot of grief with a mixed 4.11 and 5 environment over IP- only lines.

I will read the above, as you suggest...however....
Why shouldn't I see the Novell 5 server regardless? I am not trying to login through the Novell 4 server?

Anyway...for the moment...I loaded IPX and IP on the Novell 5 server and everything was fine.
IPX uses SAP, so a workstation only has to listen to find a server to attach to. NetWare 5 IP uses SLP, which does not advertise like SAP. A workstation has to know where to look to find an SLP directory agent (which lists available servives) or a server that provides services. In the newer clients, you can specify the order in which the workstation will look for SLP information. One option is the NWHOST file in the Novell\Client32 directory on a Windows 9x workstation. The NWHOST file should contain a list of available NetWare 5 trees and servers with their IP addresses.

If you are running NW 4.11 and 5 servers in the same tree, you should set up the SCMD migration agent. I didn't, and I had a lot of trouble until I finally converted all servers to NW 5.

Also, at a file server the "display servers" command only shows the ipx or ipx/ip servers.
If you want to see the IP only servers, use the "display slp services" command.

One other item to check - how is your network laid out? Can the workstation see the NW5 server directly, or only through the NW4 server? If the latter case is true, you would have to have IP routing working in the NW4 server. If the servers are on a common backbone, with no routers, only hubs and switches between the workstation and the NW5 server, you should be able get in via IP with no problem. Another possibility - if you have a firewall, and the address you assigned to the NW5 server is NOT in the defined valid IP address range, the firewall may be suppressing packets addressed to the illegal address. This happened to me earlier this year!
Hi

I want to change the private IP range available via DHCP on my Netware 5.1 server. I can see the range offered currently in the DNS/DHCP Management Console, but I cannot see how to increase the available range.

All of the information I have seen on the net refers to setting up new servers rather than changing existing parameters.

I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me how to acheive this (presumably simple) task.

Many thanks
