I've got a word 2003 doc with an embedded graphic and when I try to open it in Word 2000 the image is gone and a tiny red x appears in the graphic window. Any ideas? If I upgrade that pc to word 2003 I can see the image..

Thanks in advance!

Most likely Tools, Options, View Tab, Drawings is unchecked

Drawings is checked in the View tab.. but thanks for the quick response.. Any other ideas? THis has me stumped.

Other than - Uncheck "Allow Fast Save" under Save Tab; No.

What type of image are they?

Presumably, if you've 'upgraded the PC' you no longer have the problem or, at least, no longer have the environment to test potential solutions, so is there any point in continuing to wonder?

Enjoy,
Tony

I'm working (slowly) on my own website

Is Office 2000 fully patched up to date. There were frequent bugs producing the RedX that were eventually defeated with a succession of servicepacks.

Do you also have a default printer driver installed that is able to print graphics?

Hi gulfdiver,

This kind of thing usually only happens if the file you're opening in Word 2000 was created in an earlier version, or if the path to a linked image isn't valid (eg it's an Office 2003 clipart file that doesn't exist in Office 2000). For some causes and solutions, see:
