Cant see dialing digits from line appearance key

I have 3.2.53.I have a 5420 set which has 3 call appearance buttons for normal calls and 2 line appearance buttons for 2 direct lines .When I try to dial an external number from line appearance button I couldnt see the dialing numbers but it connects the right number .This is a boss phone and so he couldnt use redial for like these calls.He was using Norstar sets before so he wants a solution with line line button ..

Any ideas
