Hi. I have a DC and 4 stand alone servers 2000 with XP Pro clients. Most clients have SP1. However I got 2 new clients with SP2 on but I cant search the network.Does SP2 interferes with it? I tried to edit the LM HOSTS file with no success. The only way is to map a drive via the IP address. Is there a Netbios conflict that I dont see? Please help

It is very nice to be important but it is very important to be nice.

See if I am describing your situation correctly:

You have five Win2k Servers.
On as DC, four as file/application servers.

Issue: XP SP2 clients canot do a browse of the network, XP SP1 clients can.

This suggests that the SP2 firewall requires an exception for "File and Printer Sharing" to be enabled. This will open all needed ports for netbios.

While I am a bigger fan of LMHOSTS than many networking gurus, why are you not using pure DNS in this setting? Just curious.

Thank you. I have enabled the "File and Printer Sharing" and it worked. Thank you again. However please explain what do you mean by PURE DNS? I have DNS on my network. Could not work without it.Is this PURE DNS something I am not aware of it?

Well that is good news!

My thoughts on DNS for XP as a client I wrote up a little while ago: faq779-4017

I modestly claim to know Windows 2003 Server, but the best place for any question on that product would be: forum931
