Hi,

I have a test lab consist of 2 w2k servers and 3 winxp clients in preparation for 2 new dell rack servers thats coming into my company. I have a domain setup named edenbridals.local and AD setup on my PDC, DNS server and DHCP Server setup as well on the PDC. However when I try to install AD on the second server, its giving me an error saying "The domain"Edenbridals.local" is not an Active Directory Domain, or an Active Directory domain controller for the domain cannot be contact"

Can anyone help me out please? Thanks

What are the DNS entries on the server you are trying to run DCPROMO on? Can you ping the PDC by name from the server you are trying to install AD?

Hi ashleym,

Yes I am able to ping the PDC by name from the server I am trying to install AD on, I mean its confusing to me because I am able to join the server to the domain, then why is it that when I run dcpromo, it tells me that the domain controller cant be found or the domain edenbridal.local dont even exist? Please Help!!

John

What are you putting for the name of the domain when you run dcpromo? Is this a small business server? If so, you cannot have more then one domain controller.

Yes, it is a small business server version of w2k. So with sbs I can't have more than one domain controller?
