Hi,

This is my first time playing with servers. I m using wmare workstation to create servers. So far i have created a dc+dns+dhcp server and member server where exchange 2007 is installed. The problem is that i cant receive and send external mails. I have created send connector and added rights to anonymous users to receive connector.

SERVERS DETAILS:

domain controller:
Uses vmware workstation nat
static ip: IP:192.168.150.XXX
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.150.2
domain:XX.local
DNS:192.168.150.2
other info: win server 2003 r2 32bit, set static ip, ran dcpromo, installed dhcp.

Exchange server:
Uses vmware workstation nat
static ip:192.168.150.XXX
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway: dc's ip
DNS: 192.168.150.2
other info: win server 2003 r2 64bit, installed exchange 2007, did not run any commands such as adprepare, prepareschema.....ect.....

Dont know if this concerns anything but i noticed that i do not have same columns as other EMCs in send connectors properties>>address space..other EMC has domain and type columns but i have type, address and cost columns. So what could be the problem?

There could be lots of problems lol.

For your receiving issues, have you:
-Configured an email address policy?
-Configured an accepted domain?
-Ensured port 25 is open and pointed to your Exchange server

For your sending issues, have you:
-Ensured port 25 is open for outbound connections
-Created a send connector for the internet with an address space of *

Is this a home network setup you are playing with? If so, some ISPs will block port 25 outbound. Even if they don't, if you are trying to deliver mail from a dynamic IP, you will be blocked by most ISPs and will have to use a smart host to relay the mail.

Also, why is the gateway on your Exchange Server pointing to your DC? Is that server running as a router as well?

I have configured email address policy, accepted domain and send connector with address space of *. Yes i am playing with home network setup :). How do i ensure port 25 is open and pointed to my Exchange server? how do i ensure port 25 is open for outbound connections?

And sorry for mistaking, i meant my gateway is 192.168.150.2 and DNS is same as DC's ip.

You are going to have to go into your router and port forward 25 to the IP of your Exchange server to receive external mail.

When you send to an external address, what errors are you receiving? Are you getting an NDR in return? Do you see the messages you sent in the Queue Viewer?

I have already added port 25 and i do not receive any error. I Cheked queue viewer and mails just stuck there, i remove them with ndr then i get:
--------------
The recipient's e-mail system isn't accepting messages now. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message later, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.
--------------

i can telnet exchange server with ip but not with hostname.

i dont know if it counts but now it works after a while....althought i used the telnet command in my laptop...
