Can't pull shared value from subreport if hidden or suppressed?

The report in question is grouped by client ID#. The individual detail records are summed into Group Footer A, and then Group Footers B,C, and D have subreports inserted into them which contain shared values.

Group Footer E is able to call those shared values and that is the only section that I want to appear on the report. However, it is not able to call those values unless the previous footers with the subreports are NOT hidden and NOT suppressed. Is there a way to hide those and still call the values correctly?

Thanks.

Group Footer E is able to call those because the variables happen after the subreport. It's all about how Crystal processes reports - top to bottom, left to right. Subreports are processed in Pass 2.

Please look at KBase Article ID:c2017039 on BO's website. And do a search for other pertinent information.

Thanks so much!

Suppress all sections WITHIN each subreport, format each subreport to "suppress blank subreport" (format subreport->subreport tab), and in the section expert of the main report, format each group footer section to "suppress blank section".

The report now works fine with the suppress trick, and I can export it to PDF or Excel with those values showing. However, when I export it to CSV format it doesn't appear to process the shared values just like before. Any idea why? Argh! It's always something.

Not all exports support subreports. CSV format is one that doesn't. There is a table for each version of CR that shows which features are supported by which export formats and you might find this helpful. The links to these table are on the LINKS page of my site (bottom section). I have links to v8, v9 and v10 export limitations tables but have not seen the table for XI yet. If anyone has seen it I would like to know where it is.

You'd be better served to post your full requirements in advance, if you need to EXPORT to CSV, that should be stated at design time, not as an afterthought. Ypu stated that you wanted values to appear on the report, now you want a CSV export. Ina prefect world it would all be the same, but...

I suggest that you try to avoid subreports, which means using dvanced SQL to return the data in a single recordset, which will be faster and simpler to maintain.

Since you're using CR 10, you may be able to leverage a SQL Command (listed under the database you're using if it's a SQL database).

A common problem in this forum is that we have to guess because posters don't post basic information, and that the experts don't ask basic pertinent questions, so we waste your time as well.

Since you felt that the database has nothing to do with providing solutions, I can't be specific, rather just suggest that you use advanced SQL.

I think I understand what you are saying synapsevampire. Next time I will be more descriptive. It's an Interbase database. Is that just enough for future refrence? I did not realize that there would be a difference in exporting to csv compared to excel, so I really had no idea to mention that until I noticed a problem.
