Hello all,

I am fairly new to Analysis Services, I have done the Microsoft Course and it is all straight-forward when everything works.

My trouble is now I am trying to build my own cube, when I come to process it fails with the following message Error(-2147221411): Process operation failed; Time:28/04/2004 10:40:26.

This occurs when I try to process the whole cube or each dimension individually.

Can someone at least give me a hint on where to start to fix this?

Thanks in anticipation

mrees

Can you process each dimension individually or is it just when you build the cube? If you have not, try processing the dimensions first. This will help narrow down the problem.

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side because there is more manure there - original.

johnherman,

It happens both when I build the cube and try to process the dims' seperateley.

If it helps my tables are on SQL2k installed on an instance of our server and I am building the cube on a local install of analysis services.

Is there an issue like this that is fixed by a service pack? I have some hazy memory of having to put one on when I installed Analysis Services ages ago. Would this need to be done on the server also?

Cheers

Are you trying to build the cubes on your PC? If so, what is your PC/workstation's Operating System?

Yes, there coult be a SP issue. You need to have SP3 for Analysis Services on both the server and the PC client.

Yes I am building the cube on my PC which is on Windows2k. My DBA's tell me that SP3 is installed on the Server, and it is on my local machine also.

Thanks

Martin

Can you sign onto the server directly and build a cube there?

johnherman,

That did the job, I got our DBA's to allow me to build the cube on the server, and it works great.

Thanks

I'm glad that worked for you, but I was trying to narrow down the problem. It's clear that something is wrong with your client setup since you can build on the server. Make sure the client has the proper service packs. Make sure the client is in the same domain as the server.

Can you even look at the Microsoft supplied data using the client?

Or, are you satisfied with being able to use the server directly?

thanks.

I had this problem and had to manually start the Service Pack 3 instalation. Everything appears to work but the cubes won't process. I went in to the files SP3 unzipped into and executed from there to get it to work. Unzipping and running the install from the script did not work for some reason.
