I am having an issue with our site to site VPN, one computer at the main site and all at the remote site. The machines at the remote site are able to ping and see almost all of the machines at our main site. There is one computer it cannot ping by name or address. However, it will resolve the name to the proper address. I've posted this in this forum because I believe the problem comes more from a setting on the computer at the main site than I do anything else, be that correct or not, and I don't know where else it fits.

I have verified the IP settings match a computer that the remote machines can see, and they do match. I'm at a real loss as to what might be causing this problem. There are no firewalls turned on on either side. The problem exists in both directions, the remote computers can't see the one at the main site, and the one at the main site can't see the remote machines. Our network setup is somewhat complex, but since this is limited to just a couple of computers out of many, I have to believe it's a local issue rather than a network one.

I would appreciate any help, unfortunately, the one box the remote site can't see is one that they need to see. Thanks for any suggestions.

Of course...
If the "invisible" box is W2K3 server, the default security policies deny icmp echo requests, whether the firewall is on or not.

Both of the computers in questions are WinXP SP2.

Windows firewall was not on, but I finally discovered that some VPN software that was running also had a firewall, and I didn't realize it did. It was Check Point, and as I went through and stopped processes, I stumbled onto that. So the problem is now resolved.
