Up until yesterday my Windows 2000 professional computer was attached to a lan comprising of 3 other windows 98/ME pcs using a hub, and a linux box connected to a cable modem acting as gateway.
I have moved to a different location and am trying to connect to my friends network. He has 3 Windows ME pcs hubbed together, with one windows 98se machine connecting to the net via usb adsl.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 from my pc, but cant ping any other pc on the lan. I have tested the network cable (its fine) and tested the hub socket too. The Windows 98se uses nat32 to implement connection sharing.
Im sure that i should be able to ping the other pcs no matter what. I have tried setting up a static ip, using the same subnet mask as the other pcs on the network. The gateway is meant to be 192.168.0.100.
Is there some special action required to make this operating system spring into action? My friend had the same problem a while ago, it was sorted out by installing ICS on the gateway pc rather than nat32.
