I have been trying this for a while now, and I don't think I have overlooked anything. When trying to setup my 4-port etherfast router, I connect the cables, turn on the abvle modem and let it connect, turn on the router to let it try to get an IP address via DHCP from the internet then boot up the computer. Nothing.

So I decided I would enter the setup utility to fix the settings, couldn't open 192.168.1.1

Went to a dos prompt, couldn't ping the router either. This has been tried with 4 different cables and on 3 different computers. Does anyone have any idea what might be goin on here? By the way, my ip address was 192.168.1.2 with subnet of 255.255.255.0 on all occasions, also when I leave my computer on DHCP it is unable to get an IP from the router and returns a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (means the dhcp is not working properly).

Thanks in advance,

Lumstar

Disconnect the cable modem for the time being. Just connect directly from one workstation to the router.

Hold down the reset button until the red diag lites comes on, all the lights flash, and the red diag lite goes off.

Then unplug the router for 30 seconds, and restore power.

You workstation should be set to a static IP as you described above.

Then click this link:

Nope, didn't work. Thanks for the help though bcastner. Any other ideas?

Just two:

First, under IE, Tools, Internet Options, Security, Intranet Zone, set User Authentication, Logon, to prompt for username and password.

Assuming all link lights are correctly lit on both your NIC and on the router, and the red diag lite is not lite on the router, do an RMA of the device:

could you accidently be using a straight cable instead of a passthrough? been there, done that.

nope, tried a few different cables, alway have link lights at both ends. But thanks though
