Hello to all. Our server died and I've got to get us moved from our 1998 versions to the latest versions of Impromptu, Transformer & powerplay on a 2003 server. All three were installed by my network admin. so now with no time/resources, I've got to us going. I have impromptu configured, the databases are there, can connect as well. My problem is I can't get Transformer to open. If I apply or just try to open it I get a 'not enough memory to perform' error. This new server is huge with nothing else on it. I am stuck. I am trying to get it to open up so I can pull up the older versions and upgrade them. I've got everything copied over to the new server but am now stuck with transformer not opening. The greatest confusion for me is the directory structure. There is so much more in the new version of Cognos.Any tips or hints would be most greatly appreciated.

That's quite an upgrade you're making. To try and provide suitable help, can you
1) quote the full error
2) confirm the version of transformer you've installed as 7.3 MR1 (should be on the disks)
3) be sure that the network admin has installed as per cognos instructions?

Most installation problems arise from not running configuration manager fully and applying the configuration.

What, in particular, is confusing you regarding the directory structure?

Since I've never seen any third-party books on Cognos, there seems to be little option but to plough through the documentation provided for general info and then to check fora such as these for tips and answers.

It appears somehow my Cognos has a 'read only' on it. I keep getting a message: ObjectStore internal error VirtualAlloc failed to allocate at any address-Not enough storage is available to process this command (8)
In the results area of the screen it reads Unable to determine error that that occured trying to run command command autoexe.exe. Could not apply for Cognos PowerPlay for Transformer.

Cognos said we could upgrade to 7.3 with out having the other versions.
We are upgrading from Cognos\Impromptu 5.0\ImpAdmin. to 7.3 MR1, Cognos\PowerPlay 6.5\trnsfrmr to PowerPlay Transformer Eddition Windows 7.3 MR1, and Cognos\PowerPlay 6.5\pwrplay to Cognos PowerPlay 7.3 MR1 User

Do I have to do this apply everytime I go into transformer? Of course, it means nothing if I can't even get Transformer to open.

AFAIK, Cognos software is always the 'full' version - I've not seen an upgrade disk similar to to other software houses.

With that error, it sounds more like a Windows issue. Can your Network Admin do the "apply configuration"? (The apply only needs to be done once or on change of components). If he can, it sounds like an administration rights issue on your Windows profile. Our profiles here are locked down for most users to prevent installs and configuration changes.

Other Cognos issues are often solved by an uninstall and re-install - would seem a reasonable option since you're starting with a fresh server. If you go down this route, it's probably worth standing behind the network guy to check the steps he performs, too.

We can't do the apply, thats when we get the error. The NA thinks the error is because of the read only (which we have no idea how it got that way). We installed under administrator and I am signing on as administrator so I should not be getting an access issue. I want it to be set up just as you di with Admin, Creater/owner, user.

In your shoes, I'd uninstall ODI objectstore and transformer, re-boot and try again with the install. The fact that you can install and apply configuration for Impromptu seems to indicate that it's a problem with just those components and not the global server settings. Sorry I can't be more help here.

P.S. just to confirm - this is a clean install of the latest version, right? You haven't loaded any of the old versions prior?
