I installed Netscape 4.7.5 on an AIX server. I am unable to open it. Getting the following error message. I have used the same media [CD] to install Netscape on another server, and it works fine. Please advise.

root@torasp02:/usr/netscape/communicator/us
> ./netscape
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /usr/netscape/communicator/us/netscape_aix4
because of the following errors:

Symbol thread_waitlock (number 124) is not exported from dependent

Examine .loader section symbols with the 'dump -Tv' command.

Hello,
Go to ibm website and there is a latest netscape has the fix for this error.

I tried the "HINT" from gheist, but it did not work!

Will go to IBM site. Thanks!

The problem is that the libc.a that comes with Netscape is not functioning.
One temporary fix to get it running:

You need to copy /usr/lib/libc.a over
/lusr/netscape/communicator/lib433/libc.a or make a link from there to the
system lib. Netscape's copy of libc.a is not working with 433 ML-0*, just the
system one is needed.

The netscape path is usually /usr/netscape/communicatory/lib433/libc.a. but
look at the error again. It will point you to the directory you installed it in.That
is the libc.a that needs to be replaced.

exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program ns-httpd because of the
following errors: 0509-027 Member shr2.o is not found or file is
not an archive. 0509-027 Member shr2.o is not found or file is
not an archive. 0509-022 Cannot load library libC_r.a[shr2.o].
0509-026 System error: A file or directory in the path name
does not exist.

The problem above is PATH. Check out your $PATH and your
$MOZILLA_HOME and make sure they are looking in the right places. to
make sure you've got the path correct, try:

export MOZILLA_HOME=/path/to/netscape
export PATH=$MOZILLA_HOME:/${PATH}
-------------------------

When Netscape dumps core it is usually caused by no LANG=C
eariable set and exported.
export LANG=C
Or try "LANG=C netscape"

Thanks everyone!

I downloaded the latest version of Netscape (4.78) for AIX 4.2 as suggested by IBM and it works on AIX 4.3.3.XX. See below (from IBM site):

Upgrade to AIX V4.3.3-08 causes Netscape to fail to start

Problem
After upgrading an AIX system to maintenance level 4.3.3-08, Netscape will no longer start.

Solution
If Netscape stopped working and gets 4 or 5 errors about libraries, then remove Netscape and any associated packages.
Smit can be used to remove the packages. Then go to the Netscape FTP site and download Netscape Navigator Version 4.7.8 for AIX 4.2:
