Can't open link to file

I have tried looking through some of the other posts, but I'm not sure if this is the same problem or not. My co-worker cannot open links in Outlook 2000 e-mails (html) that have links to a network file. It doesn't do anything. He is running XP, same as I, but he has recently updated his Outlook files. I was wondering if anyone knows about how to fix this without re-installing the orginal program.

This has recently started to happen to my home machine (win xp pro, sp 2) but not with my work machine (win xp pro, sp1) so i think its a security update related to service pack 2, but i may be wrong.

Before we proceed any further, do other links work properly? - To a URL in the internet for example?

Yes, links to internwt web sites work. Only links to files are affected.
