Can't open Explorer, Win 98, Windows Explorer

I cannot open Windows Explorer no matter from where I try. Also, upon right-clicking or double clicking on some icons on my desktop, I receive Explorer errors. Then, I have to restore my active desktop. I am also having problems with IE 6.0.2800.1106IC. Both these issues seem somehow to be related, but I am not positive. Can anyone help? Thanks.

This sounds as though a system file has become corrupted. Try running SFC and see whether it finds an error anywhere. After that I think I would be inclined to try IE repair. If that doesn't work, I'd be trying a Win98 overlay install.

I did see some behaviour similar to this some time ago and there were multiple problems. If I recall correctly it was caused by an ISP's software becoming corrupted and I made new connections via DUN.
